Bright Eyes: I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

Con tan sólo 18 años, Conor Oberst, cantautor americano, compositor y cantante de Bright Eyes, publicó con su banda sus dos primeros álbumes: A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997 y Letting Off the Happiness (ambos editados en 1998). A día de hoy -10 años más tarde- ya lleva 8 discos de estudio, entre los que destaca I'm Wide Awake It's Morning (2005).

Además de evidentemente prolífica, la carrera de Bright Eyes está plagada de buenas canciones rock, country y folk. I'm Wide Awake It's Morning es, junto al reciente y más que recomendable Cassadaga (2007), su álbum más maduro.

Cogiendo las influencias de los cantautores norteamericanos clásicos y adaptándolas a los nuevos tiempos, Conor Oberst es capaz de hacernos vibrar, cantar y emocionarnos con una música y unas historias (especial atención a las excelentes letras) inusualmente frescas. Lo demuestra desde el principio del disco, en "At The Bottom Of Everything", donde recita un discurso-relato que acaba siendo una de las mejores canciones del álbum. Y así, uno tras otro, se van sucediendo hasta un total de 10 temas inolvidables, entre los que destacan -por citar algunos- los preciosos "We Are Nowhere And It's Now" y "Lua", los alegres "First Day Of My Life" y "Road To Joy" y el rápido "Another Travelling Song".

Bright Eyes, y en concreto Conor Oberst, forma parte de la actual generación de jóvenes llenos de talento (Patrick Wolf, Zach Condon de Beirut...) que cada vez nos sorprenden más con discos como I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, es decir, con auténticas obras mayores dentro del rock alternativo actual.
